Motorcycle Ride in California Delta (Just Ride Series)

The Reunion Ride

After a long work week I was really looking forward to the family reunion. I was equally looking forward to the Ride (any excuse will do) to get to the family reunion. Saturday morning we woke early to hit the road. On these types of rides, where it’s for pure enjoyment, (not the commute) I do my very best to follow the two lanes. I’m not very fond of big highways or interstates as I get my fill of them during the work week. We set out on a little two lane road to connect to Highway 49 in the foothills of California. We traveled south to Jackson,

(Front left- Sheryl H on her 2014 Softail Deluxe Low CVO, Back left- Kenny H on his 2014 Ultra Limited CVO, Front right- Andy W on his 2015 Road Glide Ultra CVO, Back right- Bell 2018 Road Glide Ultra)

California to have breakfast at Mel’s diner and to meet up with two more riders. My sister and brother-in-law were already there sitting at a big booth waiting for us, as per usual. I’m going to be late to my own funeral and as our marriage agreement states it will be my husbands fault for my tardiness.

Whenever arranging meet ups I always put an “ish” on the time frame. Probably, an indicator I suck at arriving on time. For this meetup the time was 8:30-ish to arrive for breakfast, we arrived 8:40 sharp.

Luckily for me my sister knows I suck at arriving on time and she is very forgiving. After a magnificent breakfast served by a waitress who looked just like Kimberly Paisley, you know Brad Paisley’s wife. In my astonishment she didn’t know who Kimberly Paisley was but said she would Google it and seemed to be flattered.

We continued south on Highway 49 and just south of Jackson near Mokelumne River we were stopped for an incident at the river. When the highway was opened, as we passed I was saddened to see the search and rescue vehicles, but really felt like crying when I saw the recovery vehicle. It kind of stuck with me for the rest of the ride, thinking of someone losing their family member in the river. In our area we usually lose three or four teenagers at the end of the school year to one of the local rivers. That was weighing on me, some poor family lost a child. Then my husband said he thought it was the motorcycle journalist who had gone missing a couple weeks before. Then a different type of sadness hit me, a fellow community member was lost. Usually, when we lose a community member it’s due to a motorcycle accident, this appears to be an accidental drowning. https://jalopnik.com/large-scale-search-ends-for-davey-g-johnson-missing-c-1835594756

I Tried to push the thoughts of one of our community members death to the back of my mind.

We continue south on Highway 49 riding through cute historic towns like Calaveras and Jamestown. Bypassing Sonora on a little side road. We hit Highway 108 and headed west to catch Lagrange Road. Lagrange Rd takes us to our destination, Snelling, California. We hung a left at Merced Falls Road to head to Henderson Park on the outskirts of Snelling.

I moved to Snelling when I was in the third grade and lived there until I was in the eighth grade, before moving to Mariposa. Snelling is another historic town, formed during the gold rush times with rock pilings left in the wake of the gold rush. Back when I lived there the town had a population of 125. The 40 years since living there, Snelling experienced a big population boom, now the population is 210.

When we arrived at Henderson Park several of the family members were already at the reunion. I felt like a famous movie star when they swarmed our bikes to say there hello’s.

We spent the next few hours getting caught up, visiting and sharing stories. We have a very large family, unfortunately we are spread out all over the United States. This reunion was relatively small in comparison to pass reunions. Most of the elders are no longer with us, Mama and daddy, uncles and aunts are watching over us, most likely shaking their heads. Those who are still with us are either too old to travel or just too far away. We did have a couple of my favorite aunts, Aunt Dorothy and Aunt Ellen. My cousin Michael had his guitar and he and my other cousins picked and sang good ole’country songs. We also had our traditional horseshoe games going on and a whole lot of beer drinking.

My sister and brother-in-law headed out to get home to babysit their grand-baby. Andy and I went into town to see if there had been any changes, much to my surprise with the population boom there hadn’t been any.

We ended up taking the same way home as we traveled on to get to the reunion. Highway 49, the difference traffic had thinned out and it was a lot more fun. The twists and turns on the new pavement was a lot of fun, gearing down going into a turn and feeling the torque twisting up on the grip.

We stopped in Jackson again. This time at a Starbucks to cool off and to rehydrate. While we were there sitting outside enjoying the shade and a nice breeze, my niece and great niece happened to pull, to pick up a pizza from the neighboring pizza joint. What a pleasant surprise it was to see our cute little Aubrey. I had a long chat with four-year-old Princess Aubrey. Although, I didn’t quite understand all the words she was saying, I managed to catch how she thinks her oldest brother Logan gets his way all the time and how Thomas is in school now.

Andy and I continued on up Highway 49 and stopped in Placerville for a In and Out keto burger. Well, keto burgers really aren’t on the menu I just get it tomato wrap/protein style.

Back at WishRanch and entirely pooped with the bikes put away, relaxing in The Grudge Lounge in front the outdoor cooler, I reflected about the ride. The sadness I felt for the lost community member, Davey G Johnson, the journalist for Car and Driver crept back into my thoughts. Those of us who ride, love riding and we have wrapped our brains around the possibilities of losing our life during our dangerous hobby of riding. What I haven’t wrapped my brain around, A man like this, experienced in the outdoors, riding, chasing dreams and writing about them loses his life by getting too close to a raging river.

I do however, take solace in knowing the good Lord has a plan and at this time our community member, Davey G Johnson must of been needed at Heaven’s gate.

Until next time

Enjoy the Ride

Remodeling/Rebuilding My Website

I recently took on the task of updating my website. I have just enough tech experience/knowledge to be dangerous but I’m dogged enough to eventually get the job done.

It’s been awhile since I last worked on it and basically had to relearn how to build a website. Usually, if I don’t know how to do something like this I turn to YouTube. I will watch a ton of videos but this time I just felt like figuring it out on my own. After I changed each section I would run a test to see how it functioned and to see what the overall appearance looked like.

During this process of setting up my website in its current state I found out something about myself I didn’t realize. I really enjoy this type of work. Granted, a lot of it was a plug and play set up with WordPress widgets and plugins. While working on this project I had so much fun I decided to continually tweak it, add to it or simply update the appearance as I learn more.

I know some of you have built your own website and some of you have hired someone to do the heavy lifting. Either way, I find it extremely important to have an easy to use website for your visitors or they will just move onto another site.

I hope you visit the website, let me know what you think and until next time.

Enjoy the Ride

CampChef

In 2004 we sold our Alpenlite fifth wheel and when we did, I agreed to throw in my husbands Camp Chef stove. Since then every chance my husband gets he gives me shit. Finally, we recently purchased a new Camp Chef stove for our RV. I thought for sure Andy would stop hard timing me about it, that would be a big negatory.

Last week we were camping at the coast and my brother in law was showing off his Christmas present (Camp Chef https://amzn.to/2VzU3Mo )  from his son. Andy then say’s, have you heard the story how my Camp Chef was given away. Me; A Giant Eye Roll..

When we were outfitting our new toy hauler we got a slightly upgraded version of our old Camp Chef, yet the hard timing ensues..

Sneak Peak: Human Cargo A John Hunt Novel

Here is a sneak peak of chapter one of the Fictional Novel I’m writing “Human Cargo” the first of The John Hunt Series.

1984

In 1984 John Hunt was sixteen years old, nearly seventeen, the only child of a single mother. His mother worked well beneath her 137 iq as a computer programmer in the basement of Macy’s. Computer programming on a main frame in 1984 was done with punch cards. John’s mom, “Anita Hunt” thought this aspect of her job was absolutely mind numbing as hell, but knew computers were the future.

John and his mother lived on the fringes of Land Park and Oak Park in Sacramento, CA. It’s kind of the grey area of two extremes. Land Park the opulent neighborhood with homes in the millions, lush green yards manicured every week by a hired landscaper. Oak Park is beyond impoverished, bare dirt for front yards, dogs tied to a scraggly tree, over ran with gang bangers.

When John was twelve years old the middle school he went to was in the dead center of Oak Park. After school one of the boys in his class was with a group of older boys. The boy said “Hey Wonderbread, what’s a cracker like you doin in our school?” John stood there for a second, he did the numbers, eight to one. He’s never been in a fight with one boy, little alone eight boys, Some of the boys looked old enough to drive. He took a right turn and headed for home. They fell in behind John, “Cracker, ain’t you gonna answer me, what’s a honky like you doin in our school?” John picked up the pace he heard the others “yeah honky!” One of the bigger boys shoved John’s classmate and said  “kick that mother fucker crackers ass.” John glanced over his shoulder to see his classmate charging him. They tumbled head over hills onto the ground, John was being punched in the ribs as they rolled around. John punching back harder and lower straight into the kidney. John was getting the upper hand, his classmate was starting to lose with every kidney punch. The other boys surrounded the two boys on the ground like a pack of wolves. The other boys saw John was winning and started kicking him in the back, in the head, in the ribs. The other boy rolled out the way trying not to get kicked. They kept kicking and stomping everywhere. John rolled up into a ball trying to protect his head, his hands, his fingers breaking with one last kick to the head. The boys took off running, scattering like cockroaches with the sight of a Sacramento PD Cruiser a couple blocks away. When the Sacramento Police Officer notified Anita of what happened, informing her John was being held at UC Davis medical center for observation he explained the extent of Johns injuries. The love everyone hippie, lost her bananas. The momma bear came out and the hippie crap went out the window.

The only positive male role model John had was his Uncle Clarence. Uncle Clarence was complete polar opposite of his sister. He was a Marine Special Forces, SRT operator. When Anita called her brother she was just this side of hysterical. She said “I want you to train John not to just protect himself but to kill with his bare hands” “He is all I have and those gang banging, ghetto drelling, mother fuckers almost beat him to death.” Clarence stifled a chuckle, he never heard his sister talk this way. She has always been a “Peace and Love” kind of person. He liked the “momma bear” of his sister and agreed to train John to protect himself and to bulk John up from his skinny, almost frail frame.

By 1984 John had been training with his Uncle Clarence and working at the same mechanic shop for almost four years. He has always liked wrenching on cars but wanted more out of life. This same year he had completed the first year of general education at the city college. When he was thirteen years old his mom came home from work to find him in the garage with the engine of her car half way removed. She calmly asked

“John what are you doing to my car?’ “I just wanted to see if I could pull the engine by myself.” She said “Okay, just put it back together when you are done.” “Thanks mom” with greasy smile.

1984 is also the year John’s mom broke the news to him she was really sick. Leading up to his mother’s death, when John wasn’t at the shop working, he was doing his homework at his mother’s bedside. Sometimes he would just sit with her talking as if he wanted to know and remember every detail of her life. He asked questions of her childhood and her parents. She wondered why he had never asked about his father. Sometimes, she would help him his studies or they simply watched tv together.

This is also the year “The Order” reared their ugly head. The Order was a white supremacist terrorist group, founded by a man named Robert Mathews. Mathews a baptized Mormon formed the terrorist group of mostly Mormon survivalist. To fund the terrorist group among other things, they robbed banks. Their big payout was when they robbed a armored car in Ukiah, California that netted 3.6 million dollars. This was the biggest news story in the history of Ukiah, the small town not too far north/west of Sacramento. John and his mother followed their crime spree in the news and  then would have long discussions of their perceived ideals.

This same year is when John decided to go into law enforcement. When he related his plans to his mom at her bedside, contrary to what John had thought her reaction was going to be, his mom was very supportive. She did however, make him promise to complete his education and to get his degree. She said “Son when you become a police officer, I don’t want you to stop learning, I want you to take every opportunity they offer to train you to be the best damn cop you can be.”

December 1984 Mathews was held up in a house on Whidbey Island, during a shootout with authorities Mathews was killed and the house was engulfed in flames. Mathews becoming a martyr in the eyes of fellow white nationalist. This same month and year John’s mother succumbed to her illness.

Thirty four years later John Hunt retired from his chosen career as a Captain of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. During the the thirty years with EDSO he took every opportunity he could to better himself as his mother had wished for him. By doing so he followed in Uncle Clarence’s footsteps and was part of the Elite S.W.A.T team for most of his career. Training with the best to be the best.

I hope you enjoyed the sneak preview.

Sister’s

My sister and I are six years apart and I am the baby of four, two boys and two girls.

Growing up I wanted to tag along with my cool older sister and Mama “MADE” her take me along with her. She resented the hell out of me for it and we fought like cats and dogs. Usually our fights were about SPACE, the space she so desperately needed with her own friends or the space we shared, our bedroom. I’m bit of a OCD Neat Freak and Sissy not so much.

On one occasion our fight got particularly dangerous. I was about nine years old and Sissy was about fifteen. We lived in a old farm house with swinging doors that led into the kitchen. She was quite a bit bigger than me and made me do her dishes while Mama and Daddy were in town running errands. They were driving up the drive and Sissy popped her head in the kitchen and yelled I’d better hurry Mom and Dad was home. I happened to be washing a giant butcher knife and I spun around threw it at her. Luckily for both of us she shut the swinging door in a nick of time and the knife stuck into the door at forehead level. She slowly opened the door with saucer sized eyes and I was looking at her the same way with relief she wasn’t hurt. After that I never had to do her dishes again and we never really fought again. In fact we became more like friends. She invited me on dates with her boyfriend, (now husband) to the movies or to the roller rink.

The August before I turned thirteen I was Sissy’s flower girl when she married her high school sweetheart and moved away. At first I was thrilled to have my own bedroom, I could actually keep it clean. This was severely short lived, I missed her so much it hurt. Each summer I would spend about a month at there house in the Bay Area.

Sissy is the best, best friend, I could ever ask for, she has been there for everything I have ever been through good or bad. Without judging and always unconditional have bailed me out of some dumb ass things I got myself into on more then one occasion.

A few months ago Sissy was diagnosed with breast cancer. While talking to her I kept a brave front all the while I was scared to death.

Sissy handled this as she has handled everything, HEAD ON. Taking no bullshit attitude and kicking cancers ass. I thank God every day she is in remission, I just couldn’t imagine life on this earth without her.

Thank you Sissy, I cherish your unconditional love, I love you..

Until next time

HOW I BECAME A GENERAL ENGINEERING CONTRACTOR … THANKS MIKE BRANDT

A LITTLE HISTORY ON YOURS TRULY:

FROM THE TIME I WAS ABOUT TWENTY YEARS OLD I HAD A SMALL LANDSCAPE COMPANY WITH MY FIRST HUSBAND. WHEN I WAS TWENTY SIX I DECIDED HE WAS A GREAT GUY BUT NOT THE RIGHT GUY FOR ME.  HE KEPT THE LANDSCAPE COMPANY AND HIS CONTACTS.  I STARTED MY OWN LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE AND INSTALL COMPANY, “BELLS MOW AND BLOW”. YES, THAT WAS THE REAL NAME.  I HAD A PUSH LAWN MOWER, WEED EATER AND A LEAF BLOWER, ETC, FOR THE MAINTENANCE ACCOUNTS. I RENTED SKID STEERS, SKIP LOADERS AND MINI EXCAVATORS FOR THE INSTALLS.

AT NIGHT I WAS TENDING BAR, DURING THE DAY I WAS DOING LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE AND BUILDING MY BUSINESS.

A MAN NAMED MIKE BRANDT WHO WAS ONE OF MY REGULAR CUSTOMERS WHERE I TENDED BAR, WHO ALSO BECAME ONE OF MY LANDSCAPE CUSTOMERS. CHANGED MY PROFESSIONAL LIFE IN WAYS I’M NOT SURE HE REALIZES TO THIS DAY.

ONE DAY AFTER MOWING HIS LAWN WE WERE SITTING AROUND DRINKING A BEER AND HE SAYS TO ME “YOU SHOULD COME WORK FOR ME”. I SKEPTICALLY SAY “DOING WHAT?” HE SAYS, “AS A BACKHOE OPERATOR” I SAY “TEACH ME HOW”..

THE DEAL WE MADE WAS HE WOULD PAY ME TEN DOLLARS AN HOUR UNTIL HE WAS COMFORTABLE ENOUGH TO LEAVE ME ON JOBS ALONE THEN I WOULD GET TWENTY DOLLARS AN HOUR. I SAT ON THE WHEEL WELL A COUPLE DAYS THE FIRST WEEK, THEN MIKE BROUGHT A BACKHOE TO MY HOUSE TO PRACTICE. HE WAS CRAZY, HE JUST DROPPED IT OFF ON A FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND LEFT. I PUT IN ABOUT THIRTY HOURS THAT WEEKEND MOVING A TWO BY FOUR BOARD AROUND ON THE SURFACE, GETTING TO THE POINT I COULD MOVE THE BOARD WITHOUT DISTURBING THE DIRT. I ALSO SPENT HOURS DIGGING A TRENCH AT VARIOUS DEPTHS, PUTTING THE BOARD IN THE TRENCH AND BACKFILLING IT, THEN CROSS DIGGING THE TRENCH TO LOCATE THE BOARD WITHOUT DAMAGING IT. ONE OF THE THINGS MIKE TOUGHT ME WHEN I WAS SITTING ON THE WHEEL WELL OF HIS BACKHOE IS HOW THERE ARE OTHER UTILITIES IN THE GROUND WE HAVE TO CROSS AND IF YOU BREAK IT, ITS VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX. I WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT BREAKING SOMETHING SO I CAME UP WITH A WAY TO PRACTICE. BY THE END OF THE WEEKEND I TRAINED MYSELF. EVERY DAY I PUSHED MYSELF TO GET BETTER, FASTER AND CLEANER TRENCHES. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN BEING AN OCD WORKAHOLIC COMES IN HANDY.

IN TWO WEEKS MIKE LEFT ME ON THE JOB SITE BY MYSELF AND MY HOURLY PAY DOUBLED. THE NEXT TWO YEARS I LEARNED EVERYTHING I COULD WORKING FOR MIKE AND ABSOLUTELY LOVED OPERATING HEAVY EQUIPMENT. EVENTUALLY, I ENDED UP WORKING FOR GRANITE CONSTRUCTION AS A JOURNEYMAN OPERATOR. OPERATING EXCAVATORS, BACKHOES, SKIP LOADERS, ROLLERS AND BLADES TO NAME A FEW. I LOVED MY JOB..

THEN A COUPLE YEARS LATER MIKE CHANGED MY PROFESSIONAL LIFE ONCE AGAIN. HE WAS ON A JOB SITE INSTALLING A SEPTIC SYSTEM ON THE SIDE OF A MOUNTAIN AND NEEDED A SECOND BACKHOE. HE WANTED ME TO RENT A BACKHOE AND HELP HIM, HE OFFERED TO SPLIT THE CONTRACT WITH ME. I TOLD HIM I OBVIOUSLY WANTED TO BUT I WASN’T LICENSED HE TOLD ME I COULD WORK UNDER HIS UNTIL I GOT MY CONTRACTOR LICENSE. WITH SOME OF THE PROCEEDS OF THE SEPTIC JOB I BOUGHT THE NECESSARY STUDY GUIDES FOR THE GENERAL ENGINEERING LICENSE TEST. IT IS A DOOZY OF A TEST THAT TAKES FOUR HOURS TO COMPLETE WITH A 75% FAILURE RATEAND OF THE 25% WHO SUCCESSFULLY PASS ONLY 1% WERE WOMEN. AT THE END OF TGE LONGEST TEST I EVER TOOK, I WAS A LICENSED GENERAL ENGINEERING CONTRACTOR. I FIRST CALLED MY HUSBAND SCREAMING AND CRYING THAT I DID IT. THEN I CALLED MIKE TO TELL HIM I WAS OFFICIALLY A LICENSED CONTRACTOR.

I’M NO LONGER A CONTRACTOR BUT BEFORE THE HOUSING CRASH IN 2006 I HAVE DUG OVER 14000 RESIDENTIAL HOMES.

THANK YOU MIKE BRANDT FOR THE OPPORTUNITY, I STILL LOVE PLAYING IN THE DIRT.

FRUSTRATED HUNT- OVERLAND BUILD

The Hunt is on for Rock Sliders or also known as Rock Rails, for “Bertha Mae” my 2017 F-150.

I recently decided to do an Overland build using my existing truck instead of buying an old Land Cruiser or Jeep.

We took Bertha Mae on a test to see how she will do at 100% stock, which allowed me to make a list of modifications.

This list was broken down into two categories.

Primary Category: Must Haves

Sub-Category: Want to Have

The Primary Category, ie; The Must Haves is where the issue lay. The Must Haves are fairly simplistic, suspension and armor.

The suspension is uber easy to source, everybody and their brother sells leveling kits for my specific truck and every other truck there is on Amazon.

(Side note, one of the things I love about Amazon, I can shop while on the road and it’s usually waiting for me when I get home.)

Anyway, Armor for my truck consist of a metal skid plate for the gas tank, as the stock skid plate is plastic. I know, kind of dumb in my opinion too, to have a plastic skid plate on a 36 gallon plastic fuel tank. My cutie pie husband sourced this one out in all of five minutes. Cool part is because I have the plastic skid plate as part of my Off Road Package, the existing mounting hardware can be used for the new Aluminum Skid Plate.

The Rock Rails/Rock Sliders is a whole story in itself.

I have been to all the four wheel specialty stores in our area, along with all the stores I deliver to and I have searched online and they all have one thing in common “buyer be aware”.

I thought I found the perfect set but on closer inspection of the goods, they were simply Nerf Bars. Don’t get me wrong if Nerf Bars is what you are looking for, go forth and conquer.

A true Rock Rail/Rock Sliders are mounted to the frame and NOT to the rocker panel. Otherwise they are either steps or running boards.

And to be perfectly honest it pisses me off for a supplier to try and sell a product under pretense.

The Differences between Running Boards, Nerf Bar and Rock Rail/Rock Sliders

Running boards- Simply put Running Boards are flat board shaped steps for easy cab access. Usually mounted to the rocker panel (sheet metal) and can withstand the weight of a person.

Nerf bar- Nerf Bars is also a step for easy cab access but shaped tubular or oval. And is usually mounted to the rocker panel (sheet metal) and they too can withstand the weight of a person.

Rock Rails/Rock Sliders- Are made with thicker walled steel and are mounted with either bolts or welded directly to the frame of the truck. They are designed to withstand the weight of the entire truck. Thus not damaging the body.

If you were to put the entire weight of your truck on either Running Boards or Nerf Bars at best you will bend them at worst you will bend them up into your rocker panel and/or rip out the mountinghardware.

White Knuckle out of Apple Valley, CA makes a pair that can withstand the weight of the entire truck. I watched two separate demonstration and reviews of EXTREME TEST.

I was so excited I not only emailed them but because I am at times impatient I called to get a quote (which was a formality because I wanted a set) BUT they don’t make them for my truck. Bummer, right??

The Hunt Continues…

Enjoy the Ride

RESULTS ARE IN: The Full Size Overland Test

The Mission: Overland Road Test Stock F-150

My duties- Spotter and Document

Andy’s Duties- Drive and make me laugh

The test site was El Dorado National Forest. We were to head out early morning on Saturday but our refrigerator had other plans for us. My handy dandy husband dove in head long to fix the refrigerator before we headed out.

We hit the road about 11:30 am and stopped in town to get lunch supplies and ice before heading east farther into the mountains. We are fortunate enough to live in the foothills of Northern California and we don’t have to travel far for an adventure in the forest.

We took highway 50 east to Silver Fork Rd and headed south to Pack Saddle Pass. Heading deeper into El Dorado National Forest.

The scent of pine trees and little critters running across our path was exactly what I was looking for to put my Full Size Overland Rig to test. We bombed around on dirt roads in search for a spot with a view for lunch before picking up Cody Meadows Road where the real test will begin.

We found a secluded camp site on a mountain ridge with large pine trees, a giant granite out cropping and a view on three sides. In the solitude we enjoyed a Keto friendly meal and each other’s company. We talked and laughed about how the campsite from this day forward was claimed as my husbands campsite. We talked about the up coming mods on the Overland Rig, we even got mushy and expressed how lucky we are to be with each other.

After lunch we continued on to Cody Meadows Road with slightly more technical challenges for the rig. The road is not much more then a trail. Still nothing too aggressive with some technical areas with rocks ranging from eight inches to about twenty inches. The washed out ruts was my favorite, it allowed me to me to visualize first hand the clearance of not only the under carriage but also the air dampener used for fuel economy. Only on one occasion the air dampener scraped but I spotted it before damage occurred and directed Andy to change his approach.

The trail also offered a nice 7% to 9% grade which gave a good example of traction the stock tires has to offer. Next test of the trail was for the rig size. On the ridge the trail winds through the pine trees. It was tight pretty much this entire stretch and there were a couple times when clearing a tree at the front corner of the rig, the back corner of the rig was a mere inch or two from another tree.

After clearing the pine trees the terrain took on a high desert look where we came upon an abandoned vehicle with a date on it, of the same date. We thought we would come across the owner and offer him/her a ride off the mountain but no such luck.

Still slightly in the middle of no place we came across a clearing with about ten or fifteen cars parked. We were like, what the ???.  One of the owners was standing next to his vehicle when we rolled up, we asked what special event was going on. With great pride on his face he said it was a Boy Scouts Ceremony at Cody Lake.

Then about a half mile down further down the road, our fun dissipated a bit with paved roads.

Final Conclusion:

The 2017 F-150 FX4 Off Road is a great platform for an Overland Build. The mods don’t need to be over the top drastic. I will be starting with a simple two inch leveling kit, (already on order and on the way) and rock slides. The rock slides will take slightly more research but I am convinced I will soon be able to find a functional set. Then deciding on a Rack System or Canopy to mount a roof top tent. And of course rubber, eventually better tires.

Stay tuned for the Overland Build Updates and until next time,

Enjoy the Ride

I’M BACK….

We are back…

It’s been a long time since I have published my thoughts or stories.

Just a little recap of where I have been and what kind of trouble I have been into. As you can see, I still like to monkey around but sadly not much trouble these days.

I have been working just too much, traveling all over the western United States and Canada to have the TROUBLE kind of fun.

Last year (Dec 2015) my company “Truck Accessories Group”  got all of the drivers new trucks and so far my little road partner “Roo” and I have put on over 200,000 miles.  I now have a dedicated run to Edmonton, AB, CA. Delivering Leer Canopies and Truck Accessories.  With the occasional fun run,  like the one I am currently on to Elkhart, IN.

With all this work and travels, I have still managed to get some rides in, which I will share in the not too distant future.

On the bike front, I’m still riding bitch on the beauty above.  Not to worry, I have my eye on a mini-me of “Big Blue” (yes, I name all of our bikes), just slightly newer. I will also install a quick disconnect for the trunk and change out the seat to a one up for a sleeker, sexier look.

Also, I have completely given myself a nutritional overhaul.

For the last three and a half years I have been following a Ketogenic lifestyle. Yeah I know, I don’t really like the term “lifestyle” when describing your nutritional habits, but here I am using it just the same. And really its the best term for it and how I go about it.

I’m an all in, jump head long into it, kind of person.

When I shared with you the details of wrecking “Scarlett” and published the photo’s of the black and blue bruises, the thing that kept coming back to me when I looked at the photo’s wasn’t the bruises, or how jacked internally my body was, it was how FAT I was (along with some other motivators, which will be in a story called “My Journey” I will publish very soon).

So, I made some minor changes to my food and the weight came off and I was back to my fighting weight. Then I found out what I was doing actually had a name, Ketogenics. This is where I’m all in, jump head long into it, slightly obsessive…

I have researched Ketogenics from all kinds of resources from the simple DIY informational blogs, vlogs and YouTube’s, to Medical Doctors and PhD Professor/ researchers. It all boils down to this, the fuel you put into your body is as important as the air you breathe.

During this time of research and transforming my body not just how it looks but how it functions, I have had to be creative to follow this (here comes again) “LIFESTYLE”          Traveling by Motorcycle, RV and Big Rig.   Keto On The Go

I have some great rides, runs and Keto tips I will be sharing very soon.

It’s good to be back……
