When I Fall Off the Wagon, I Fall Big!!

Okay, so I’m not big on blaming other people for my actions or making excuses, but here we go—here we go with some big-time blame game and excuses up the wazoo.

It was finally a warm, beautiful day in St Augustine, Florida. My sister (best friend/troublemaker) Sheryl, yes spelled with an “S” the correct spelling. You are welcome, sis! Now hold tight because this shit is going to be all on you, from the weather to the wagon abandonment. See what I did there? I gave a little with the whole spelled correctly thing to the blame game thing.

Okay, Okay, (said in my best Joe Pesci voice)

When I say wagon abandonment, that means, I jumped in the air and clicked my heels together like the vertically challenged dude wearing clover leaves. Then pirouette right off the end of the wagon with two middle fingers, saying F🔥🔥K this 💩, I want to PARTY ON GARTH.

TRUTH

Okay, here is the truth. My sister is my best friend and her name is spelled correctly, with an “S”.Then it’s all Lies, well not all lies, I did wagon abandonment (aka fall off the wagon) and I did give a tiny, itty bitty double middle finger. And the weather was oh my gosh beautiful! Here is where it is all my sister’s fault.

Sheryl and Kenny, Kenny (my brother-in-law) came down to St Augustine to visit in their RV and recently purchased a Sea Doo jet boat. They were staying at the KOA on Anastasia Island.

The first two days they were here were a bust weather-wise, but we still had fun. We went to a local smokehouse called Briskey’s. Then the next day we went on a drive along Lake George.

On the third day, the weather promised to be sunny and warm. We were able to launch their boat at the St Augustine Lighthouse ramp. I had forgotten how much fun it is to be on the water on a small but fast hell run about. We ran up the river, just north of the Vilano bridge and past our marina. Kenny, Kenny were cooking about 35 mph, when we heard an odd sound, then the unmistakable sound of a turbocharger blowing air. We pulled off the channel and tossed an anchor. Andy went to work diagnosing the issue. The recent purchase was so recent Kenny Kenny didn’t have one tool on the boat.

MACGYVERED IT

The clamp to the newly rebuilt turbocharger hose loosened and came off. The problem is, we didn’t have any tools. Andy was not deterred in the least. He tried everything in his pockets. Which surprisingly was not much.

He tried a key for our hitch lock, but it was too thick. I offered up the zipper tab from my sweat jacket. We searched all of our wallets for coins, but nada, zilch, nothing. We were dead in the water.

Then we circled back to the keys on our key rings. Kenny Kenny’s shop ring was thin enough to loosen the hose clamp enough to reposition it, and then tighten it down enough.

FAULT

We were up and running again but decided to stop by Sea Boss to pick up some actual tools and while we were there; I walked the Bossy baby. Andy grabbed some tools and properly tightened all the hose clamps in the engine compartment.

Did I say the weather was magnificent? No? Well, it was. I decided it was perfect weather to allow myself a beer. After walking Boss, and hanging on the dock while Andy was doing his magic, I grabbed beers for all (except for Sheryl with an S)

FOR THE LOVE OF BEER

Here is where I full-on clicked my heels together and pirouetted off the wagon in my wagon abandonment. After we, and when I say we, I mean Captain Andy, finished tightening all the hose clamps ( which were a lot) we took the little boat to Beaches. One of our favorite places for great food and drinks with killer sunsets.

EXCITEMENT

With the warm sunny weather, the boat being repaired, and cruising the ICW, the perfect conditions it begged for another beer. I was having so much fun, I indulged in three more beers. All the while, big sis who was totally at fault, abstained from partaking.

JOKING ASIDE

Joking aside, I don’t feel bad at the least for popping back a few beers. For one, life is too short. I was enjoying the moment with my family. I love the taste of an ice-cold beer on a warm day and I especially love it with friends and family.

WHAT WAS THE COST

The smart scale at the moment is still a smart scale. I haven’t lost weight but I haven’t gained either. I am still bouncing from 145.7 lbs to 147.3 lbs. And even with enjoying the beer I managed to keep my calories under my daily calory allowance. Besides the scale not going down there are other symptoms to note. The next day after drinking, I was bloated and my hands were swollen. Additionally, the nocturnal leg cramps were off the hook. The side effects of drinking made me curious, so I decided to indulge again to see if there was a pattern.

A couple of days later, we moved our boat from St Augustine to Daytona Marina near Main Street, Daytona. Again I was excited to be in Daytona for Bike Week and docking the boat without incident. We celebrated with dinner and drinks.

Lo and behold, the side effects were worse. I was nauseous, I didn’t sleep but for a couple of hours because the leg cramps were incredibly severe. My extremities are swollen and painful. At this moment in my life, I just don’t think an ice-cold yummy beer is actually worth the consequences.

I am listening to my body instead of my emotions.

Below are two apps I use to track my meals: Carb Manager which I use in the free version, and the Smart Scale app, which comes with the scale.
