Have you ever wondered where does the fat goes when you lose weight?

I never considered it until I started researching the carnivore diet and taking charge of my health. Years of instruction led us to believe fat transformed into muscle and exited the body by bowel movements.

I was listening to Kelly Hogan while on my 10k a day. She said on carnivore you breathe away your fat (I’m paraphrasing) but that was the gist of it. Then Dr Ken Berry said something similar.

As I was walking, I was thinking, are they talking about Aerobic exercise? And getting your heart pumping and making yourself breathe harder?

A Rabbit Hole

A rabbit hole I go. A very well-written article I read by Darla Leal, who is a Master Fitness Trainer and Freelance Writer, quotes Ruben Meerman, (Physicist and Author of “Big Fat Myths”). The quote is from a paper he wrote in the British Medical Journal.

The human body is fascinating. At the cellular level, fat is converted into carbon dioxide (CO2). when fat leaves the body, 84% is exhaled as CO2 and the remaining 16% is excreted as water. So most of the fat we burn is literally released into the air.

When you consume calories, your body convert it into fat cells and stores it for energy. Your body requires a certain amount of stored energy in the form of fat cells for basic bodily functions. Such as moving your muscles, lung function, even your heart uses the stored energy to beat (approximately 100,000 times per day).

The energy stored as fat also regulates body temperature. It insulates the body and protects vital organs.

When you consume the right amount of calories for the energy your body needs to function, you can maintain a healthy weight. The opposite is true, when you consume too many calories the excess energy is stored as fat. “I’m not fat. I just have a lot of stored energy.” 🙄

Fat is converted into usable energy in the fat burning process and unlocking the atoms into triglycerides is known as oxidation. The fat cells will shrink and the fatty acids are broken turned into carbon dioxide (CO2) and waters (H2O). Then the Lungs expel 84% of the converted fat in the form of Carbon Dioxide and 16% of fat in the form of water released by urine and sweat.

Blow Hard

The moral of the story remains the same. If you want to lose weight, there has to be a caloric deficit. This just correctly explains how the fat is expelled from the body.

Most people assume it turns into heat and energy, but Albert Einstein showed us that diets would be devastating if this were true.

The correct answer is that fat is converted to carbon dioxide and water. Energy is released, but no mass is created or destroyed.

I’m Breathing Hard 17lbs

I am finally breaking the smart scale stall and as of today I am down 17 pounds and weigh in at 143 pounds by eating only animal products. Such as; ribeye steaks, hamburger, short ribs. brisket, salami, pork chops, chicken wings, bacon, eggs, cheese, and heavy cream. In full disclosure, I have allowed myself a couple of low carb beers a few times. That being said, my lifestyle has completely changed in that regard. Prior to the carnivore lifestyle, I was a member of DEA (DRINK EVERY AFTERNOON). And now it is occasional.

Progress

As I go forward and continue to move my body, the progress will come. And this is true for you as well. We just need to be patient, eat meat, be happy and trust the process. BREATH OUT FAT.
